Hello, Panthers-
My name is Ms. Ann Lively and I will be your child's reading, writing and social studies teacher this year at Horizon. I am a native of Arizona and grew up right here in Glendale! I am very excited to be your child's teacher. Together we will make this year year fun, create great memories and most importantly, massive amounts of LEARNING will be taking place.
School starts at 7:45 am and is dismissed at 2:45 pm. Our lunch time is 11:05-11:45 pm. Please set your child up for a great start by making sure they get a good nights sleep every night and eat a healthy breakfast in the morning. Please remember that our cafeteria serves a no-cost breakfast every morning. On those rushed days, your child might want to take advantage of this gift. It is highly recommended that you send a closed topped water bottle to school with your child. It is very hot outside and children become dehydrated quickly. Please make sure that the water bottle contains water only. No soda, juice or sports drinks are permitted in class.
I will be your child's homeroom teacher but your child will be switching classes this year. I will be your child's reading, writing and social studies teacher, but they will be switching classes during the day and Mrs. Moreno will be teaching your child math and science. Your child will be spending half the day with me and half the day with Mrs. Moreno. Our intention is to have our students start and end their day with their homeroom teacher.
It is the expectation of the school that grades 3rd-8th carry an agenda with them. Students will fill out their agendas daily and write down their homework assignments. This is a great opportunity to have your child be accountable for their learning, as well as a constant form of communication between teacher, parents and student. This is also a way for you, the parent, to see how your child's behavior was during the school day. If your child received a color change, I will always write a note in the agenda as to why the reason for the color change. Please make sure you are checking your child's agenda every night and signing it and sending it back with your child everyday. Agendas that are not signed will result in a color change. If your child misplaces their agenda, it will cost $5 to replace it.
It is also an expectation that students wear school IDs at all times. Students who lose their IDs will be required to replace them. The cost to replace them is $5.
Please make sure you are checking this website as often as you can. I will be posting the daily and monthly homework assignments under the homework tab as well as news and events that are happening at our school. These events will be posted under the monthly calendar tab.
I am looking forward to working with you and your child this school year. Please feel free to contact me anytime you have a question or concern. I will get back to you as soon as I can.
I look forward to our year together. If you have any questions, please contact me by email or phone.
